  1. Hi, I’m no professional in this issue, so take my words with that in mind. It’s hard to say if masks will be enough for you since you’re already environmentally sensitive. I know that you need to be careful b/c the spores are inhalable when you disturb them. If you are super sensitive you may want to invest in hiring a professional cleaner to do it. Many people use vinegar to clean their’s. Sounds like you’ve identified what’s causing the mold to grow and have moved to stop it. That’s good. That’s the first step.

  2. Michael and Beverly Hendon says:

My husband and I both have severe allergies. Recently we discovered mold growing on our windows that we had covered with insulation to help keep the house warm. Our allergies have gotten worse over the past two years. we are planning to remove the insulation and clean the windows this week end. I am a little worried to move and stir up the mold. Will masks be enough to protect us from the spores? And what can I use to clean it off the windows? We aren’t going to put the insulation back in.

So sad to hear the general overall denial by insurance companies and Healthcare professionals. In Texas many places just never repair water damage and it is a silent killer. No one wants the bill of proper remediation and as a single female homeowner the odds stack against getting honest work done either. My life has just gone up in flames over roof leaks not properly diagnosed……I saw a walking zombie reference in someone’s comment…I have joked about me going to audition for the set BUT it’s really not funny at ALL……blows me away no one takes this deadly stuff seriously. This crap is intentionally used for chemical warfare so I am pretty darn sure the powers that be are aware of it’s deterioration of a normal functionally level.

    Deborah,
Sorry to hear that no one will help with the poor IAQ in your apartment. While its true there are some things that can help your immune system, you really need to get out of there if you are certain the apartment is making you ill. These illnesses seem to self correct if caught early enough. Those who report life long dibility appear to be those who have had chronic, long term exposures. Not a doctor, but I think that is pretty much accepted science.

I have tried to get apt management, health dept, air quality etc to come and do an air quality of my apt. No one is interested helping me in NC. So I found bone broth. I know my degenerating bones will really like the broth. I believe the nutrients will help with the mold toxicity also.

  6. Deborah says:

I have started making bone broth. I believe it will help my body heal from many things. Even damage from the mold. Bone broth is like a super food, like bee pollen and propolis are. Here are some links that for benefits of the broth. Read the whole web pages.

I found that borateem kills the mold better than anything else I have used. And it keeps the mold at bay inside the drywall longer than anything I have used.

    I found these interesting reads.

    http://www.healthextremist.com/bone-broths-health-benefits-and-how-to-make-bone-broth/

Why Gelatin in Bone Broth is So Healing
Gelatin is a protein substance which is present in the tendons, ligaments, tissues of mammals, and naturally occurs in bone broth. To achieve a higher amount of gelatin in your bone broth it is best to allow the bones to cool in the refrigerator. After a day of refrigeration you will be able to see the “jello” like gelatin formed. The amount of gelatin in bone broth can be visible as being gel like with a jiggly texture. Some bone broths may end up with more gelatin than others because the amount of gelatin from the bones can vary. It may also not be visible in the bone broth due to having a lot of water and the gelatin is not as condensed.

Different bones house more of certain nutrients
Different bones have unique characteristics to be aware of. Larger bones such as the femur and humerus bones of the legs and arms contain more bone marrow than many of the smaller bones. Individuals with anemia, lung disorders, immune disorders, chronic infections, etc. would more specifically target these disorders using broth with increased marrow.

Smaller bones contain more gelatinous materials than larger bones. The gelatinous material is especially useful for digestive health as it provides key raw materials that help the cells of the digestive system to regenerate. This is a key health tool for individuals who are trying to overcome leaky gut syndrome. Bone broth fasts are one of the best strategies for destroying parasites like Candida and rebuilding the gut.

    Benefits of Bone Broth
    http://www.doctorauer.com/benefits-of-bone-broth/
What’s better than a hot bowl of homemade soup during a cold winter day? Almost every culture throughout history has used bone broth for its nutritional significance, versatility and overall deliciousness. Chinese medicine practitioners use bone broth to strengthen the kidney, support digestive systems and build blood. The term “Jewish penicillin” is used for chicken soup, known to inhibit cell inflammation and mitigate cold symptoms. And the English sip beef tea, or beef broth, used since the Victorian era.

    Hi Travis,
While its never a good idea to have mold in your home, your question of whether you should be worried is hard to answer. Typically a little mold in a shower is not going to harm anyone. Alot of mold behind the vinyl could pose a health threat. If you are feeling ill, try to track if you feel better when away from your home and then worse upon reentry. If that’s the case, you may wish to have someone come advise you specifically about the safety of the indoor air quality of the home. Hope that helps!

Currently I’m living a nightmare since I was exposed to a lot of mold in the department of my mom. There was a water leak and the wood began to rot, mold grew and I was exposed for a month and a half to it, the smell was terrible at the end, we managed to find a new place to move but apparently I had already greatly affected me, even though the last few days I stayed at a hotel avoiding further ill, the damage was done. I’ve been experiencing symptoms all the time for 3 months, and I can barely sleep 3 or 4 hours at night, this has been terrible for me. I would like to contact any of you to see how we can help each other and what is the treatment. I’m temporarily in Miami – Florida. Mi e-mail in hotmail is p a t s a n i t
Hope to hear from anyone soon! Richard Wiggins I fully identify with you

  11. Richard Wiggins says:

This is kind of upsetting that more treatment isn’t available for those folks affected by this debilitating condition (mold Mycotoxins), and to discover that I possibly have this condition really has me on the edge… I have all the symptoms… Maybe missing one or two but believe me they are there! However I have not seen any mold in my home. My home is only 6 years old, my basement in damp due to moderate rains, nothing a dry mop can’t clean up. But, it happen after each and every rain or snow event. The water appears to come from the concrete walls which are insulated with heavy padding covered with foil that is stapled to the wall. I sure this padding is soaking up all that moister. This has been going on for about three years now. The symptoms appear to be more acute during the winter months when the home is closed up due to the weather then summer month when the home is open to fresh air. I haven’t had a good night’s rest in 3 months now. I get about one hour rest a night at home and sleep about 3 hours at my job! I know this can’t go on for much longer… I’m a walking nightmare… I could be a perfect cast member for a zombie on the hit show THE WALKING DEAD!!! However this is real, very real and very serious. I pray to find a solution. Any suggestions?

There so much more – diseases associated
    Valley Fever
    Cancer
    Aspergers
The list is very long, fungal illnesses are very difficult to get rid of, much more than viruses or bacteria.

  14. You might want to add obstructive sleep apnea to the list. The ear, nose and throat doc says I am not allergic to mold. He said it is the amount of mold that is causing your throat and nose to swell shut. The problem is that you can’t wear a c-pap if your nose is closed up. I also have premature aging. My doctor says the x ray of my bones look like the belong to someone “much” older than I am. This was 3 or 4 yrs ago. I am now 55 and feel like I am in my 70s. And a lot of my health problems are that of seniors in their 70s and 80s.

If I had not been taking herbal immune boosters all these years I would have died before now. I have seen many people die in this apt. building. I can’t afford to move and the waiting lists for HUD assisted rent is years.

I do believe that what they are spraying in sky all the time is the reason for mold everywhere. I grew up in Florida’s humidity. We didn’t have mold in houses then. There was an AFB in the city. Those lines in sky are not jet contrails.

  16. teresa sellers says:

I thank you for this site. I live in an old motel from the 50’s. The owner made it into apartments. I have seen black stuff oon the windows and the smell is awful.. you have to use air freshners. I have mentioned it to him and he says use bleach water all will be fine. I have taken pictures and even my apt is falling off the foundation. we hve a pump under the motel that pumps the excess water out. but when hot you can smell it and the water that is left in the drain you see is green. I feel tired all the time and now have high blood pressure. When I leave I feel great. my neighbors now have migraines and upper respitory infections and the kids are on inhailers. he will not do any thing.. its awful…I am going to my dr and see what he says then to city hall.

  17. michele says:

Hi I just moved into an apt, it has an awfull musty odor, and also feels damp all the time, the tenant had over 20 air fresheners thru out the apt,(I now know why)but my thought is that there may be a mold issue,as the apt was in the 1996 hurricane “Floyd” in New Jersey,my apt is on ground level so I am not sure where the smell is coming from, and also my throat snd nose burns when I smell the odor, and I cant get rid of the smell, it is driving me crazy, does any1 have any suggestions!!!thanks,Michele…

After living with mold for more than 6 yrs. with numerous health problems (all mis-diagnosed), i finally figured it out and my house was torn apart. My problem now is, i can’t seem to find a toxicologist who can help me recover from this horrible ordeal. I don’t want to feel like this permanently.

  19. Laurel says:

    Wow..
Glad I found this post. I have 17 of the above symptoms and have been really worried that I had (kidney disease/ liver toxicity/ heart problems/ chronic fatigue.. many worries).

I have an art studio in New Orleans in an old school that was turned into artist spaces after Katrina and though the building was remediated for mold, my studio had visible mold in the ceiling and probably in the walls as well. I finally put two and two together and you are right.. it is slippery to diagnose but really intense to deal with.

    Thank you,

    Laurel

My wife and I have a personal injury attorney to try and go after our Home Owners Association, who like Richard’s HOA neglected to repair the water damage (and subsequent mold infestaion)caused by a leaking roof that took them three years to replace. They basically deny that we have mold at all, even though we’ve had multiple contractors over a number of years present bids for remediation valued at over $8K US. The HOA has only replaced one section of sheetrock, in the ceiling where the water intrusion occured, and refused to let the contractors do anything more. We opened the wall adjacent to the ceiling, and found more mold. My wife has 33 out of the 35 mold toxicity symptoms, and nobody in Las Vegas wants to help us. (Not alot of regulatory agencies in Nevada, unlike California where I grew up).

Any information exchange of info that could help either of our cases would be greatly appreciated.
