At a press conference for injured movie and Kaiser workers at the Downey dump site mold expert Sharon Kramer reported on her efforts to expose the conflict of interest between the corporate doctor’s trade group ACOEM and government agencies which are supposed to protect injured workers and the public. She discovered that ACOEM is an organization that promotes “junk” science and it’s rules are written into the law in California with the deregulation of workers compensaton by Governor Schwartzenegger and the Democratic controlled legislature. She also reports on the role of Senator Edward Kennedy on deleting a government study on this conflict of interest.

  1. Rochelle Goring says:

    OMG!!! Thank you Ms. Kramer.
I am one of the countless individuals who was exposed to mold in the work place.
I work for a major healthcare organization in So Calif. As a Manager, I had many staff who complained for years of respiratory problems after arriving at work. As the complaints escallated, I asked the Safety Officer to test the air. We were told the air was “safe”. Throughout those years my health also began to decline: allergies, migraine headaches, loss of smell, fogginess, eye irritation then floaters, abnormal pap smear, non-productive cough, nodules on my lungs (sarcoidosis), severe anemia, skin rashes etc.
Finally after five years I requested a office re-model, it was during this departmental re-model that stachybotrys and aspergillus molds were found in my office (caused by an air conditioning leak). There have been eight work comp claims from staff, and six claims for myself including PTSD. All claims related to mold exposure have been denied. Now I understand the conspiracy. Thank you!
